LECTURE OF ML ABDULLAH KAPODRAWI D.B

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

LECTURE OF ML ABDULLAH KAPODRAWI D.B IN THE AWARD GRANTING CEREMONY HELD ON SUNDAY THE 25TH OF SEPTEMBER 2016 TO HONOUR THE EFFORTS AND SERVICES OF HONOURABLE AND RESPECTED PRINCIPAL OF FALAH E DARAIN ML. ABDULLAH KAPODRAWI D.B (WITH OTHERS)

Respected ulama, elders and brothers.

You have organised this gathering of ours today to honour some of our Ulama. I am not worthy of this honour, however the others whose names I have heard, Late Moulana Khalil Ahmed Lajpuri who has spent a long time giving service here, as well as Respected Sheikh Ahmed Kati and Sheikh Abdullah Idrees who is not present here at the moment, are deserving of this honour. I was thinking that this is a good function in wherin the services of the Ulama are highlighted. When we will honour and respect the Ulama then our children will also learn how to respect and revere the services of the Ulama.
My friends! I thank you for counting on me to be worthy of this honour together with these great ulama, wherin in reality I am only a servant and student of knowledge May Allah Ta’ala grant you the best of rewards for this.
I would like to share two points with my friends:
The most important thing and responsibility of the Ulama nowadays in this era is that they minimise and reduce the divisions amongst themselves. We unite together, respect one another and respect the opinions of one another as much as possible. One of the sicknesses and diseases that has entered and befallen us is that a small difference of opinion or small differences of thoughts becomes a very big issue which is blown out of proportion. I cannot understand this at all.
Once the vice chancellor of Aligar University Sayyid Hamid Sahib was invited to Dar ul Uloom Tarkesar. He is a very honourable person. I was also present in that gathering. There was an argument and discussion between Abdul Khaliq Sahib the principal of the school and the teacher of Hadith in our institute. In the interim of the argument they raised their voices. Sayyid Hamid and I both were looking at them. Sayyid Hamid sahib held his composure and sat silently for some time and then finally after a while he said in a very good manner, “Oh Moulana! Why do you outline people from your circle? Leave them within the boundaries of our circle. On a small petty issue you outline people. This is not a good thought. It is very important that we have a broad mind and a broader thinking in this era and age.”
The second issue is that the biggest problem of this era is the continuous attacks on our minds and thoughts. We have to understand the attacks that are made on our mindset regarding our religion and culture. We are very worried that our young Ulama who are graduating from our institutions are working on a limited scale. We appreciate the services they provide. They are teaching in institutions, leading the prayers in the Masaajid. May Allah Ta’ala reward them for their services, but I would like to put forward something greater. We have to look and see how our pious predecessors worked in difficult conditions. Our situation is such that we are not even aware of the names and works of our elders. A student was
once asked that who was Hazrat Moulana Mahmoud-ul-Hasan Gangohi r.a. and he replied that he was the father of Hazrat Madani r.a. I became so grieved that this is a senior student and he is not aware of Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Hind. The person who taught Hadith for 40 years in Dar-ul-uloom Deoband, rendered his services and worked for the Muslims in India. The person who shattered his bones in the jail of Malta for Islam and Muslims. When our generation is unaware of him then this is a very big deficiency. I humbly request these graduates of ours to learn who our elders were and what work they have done. Who was Hazrat Shah Wali-Ullah, who was Hazrat Mujaddid Alf-e-Thani, Sayyid Ahmed Shaheed and Moulana Qasim Nanotwi. Due to his efforts the gardens of knowledge are all lushing throughout the world. Today we are saved because of his duas and the results of his efforts. Who was Moulana Sayyid Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi, who was Moulana Sayyid Sulaiman Nadwi? We should know how they spent their lives. People don’t know who Muhammed Ali Jawhar was. There were 4 moulanas in India who awakened the muslim generation of India when they were drowned in the darkness of the west. They were Moulana Abul-Kalam Aazad, Moulana Muhammed Ali Jawhar, Moulana Hazrat Mobani and Sheikh-ul-Hind. Moulana Aazad published the pamphlet of ‘Al-hilal’ which awakened the nation. Two years ago in one of my travels I was seated with Sheikh Qardavi who uttered a very good sentence, ‘One person of great enthusiasm can awaken a whole nation.’ We have to produce such personalities on whose enthusiasm, thoughts and worries the whole nation can be awakened. We are going through very difficult times. In the whole world the conditions which we are facing in these times of trials, we are in great need of high aims and dedications. We are in need of a lot of broad thinking. May Allah Ta’ala give us the tawfeeq.
This is what I am trying to say. I have tried this in my life and have also tried to tell the students in the institutions that leave this habit of dividing yourselves into groups and parties. I have seen that one institute does not see like another institute. Whenever someone comes to ask me as to which madrassa I should enrol my child? I would say there are a lot of madaris in Gujarat, Dhabel, Ashrafiyyah (Rander), Kantharia, Falah-e-Darain, etc. I would tell him that there are many madaris and all of them are our madaris. You go and spend 2 days at each institute and wherever your child feels comfortable enrol him therein. If your heart feels that such and such madrasa is fine then enrol your child therein. We respect one another. The work we are doing is the same work that they are also doing, then why are we doing such a thing? Why are they there? And why are they enrolling so many students? Remove this constraint thinking of ours. It is also not necessary that all of our people should be united with us in all the different conditions and masa’il. People who have differed have passed in the past. Imam Abu Hanifa was a great scholar whose own students used to differ with him in his own gathering. We pray in Al-Hidayah that Imam Abu Hanifa ruling is so and so, Imam Abu Yusuf has oppoed him etc. He never got annoyed with them that you being my students how can you oppose me. In so many rulings Laith Bin Saad opposed him but he had a big heart. Everyone has an opinion so we have to be broad minded.

May Allah Ta’ala reward you abundantly for honouring us.
