In the light of the Qur'aan and Ahadeeth

Madrasah in Just 5 Minutes

In the light of the Qur'aan and Ahadeeth

(1) Islaamic History
The first martyr in Islaam was Hadhrat Sumayya رضي الله عنهما, who was the mother of Hadhrat Ammaar and the wife of Hadhrat Yaasir (RA). Hadhrat Sumayya رضي الله عنهماhad been a slave of the Abu Hudhayfa family of the Quraysh whom they had set free to marry Hadhrat Yaasir (RA).  When she, her husband and her son accepted Islaam at the very beginning, the Banu Makhzoom became infuriated with them and did not spare anything to torture them. Whenever Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) passed by them, he would encourage them to be patient and gave them the glad tidings of Jannah. When Abu Jahal once passed by the family being tortured, he swore at her and pierced his spear into her private part, causing her to die. She was therefore the very first martyr in Islaam.
(2) Allaah’s Power

Seeds are covered by a very hard shell that we often cannot even bite through. However, when the same seed is placed in the soil, a fragile and small shoot sprouts through this hard shell and gradually breaks through the ground above. Who is it that causes this shell to split and the little shoot to break through? Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “Undoubtedly Allaah is the One Who splits the seed and the date stone”.

[Surah An’aam, verse 95]

(3) A Fardh

Amongst the seven things that Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) commanded was that people participate in the Janaazah salaah.

[Bukhaari 1239, from Hadhrat Baraa bin Aazib (RA)]

It is Fardh Kifaayah to perform the Janaazah salaah, meaning that it is obligatory for people to carry out, but if some people fulfil the obligation,it will be waived from the rest.

(4) A Sunnah

Hadhrat Anas (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) never ate from a table. When someone asked him what it was that Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  ate from, he replied that Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  ate from a cloth spread on the ground.

[Bukhaari 5415]

(5) An Important Act and its Virtue

Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  stated that when a person swallows his anger at a time when he had the power to vent it, Allaah will summon him before all of creation on the Day of Qiyaamah and he will be allowed to choose whichever damsel of Jannah he wants.

[Abu Dawood 4777, from Hadhrat Mu'aadh bin Anas (RA)]

(6) A Sin

Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  said, It is not permissible for any Muslim to sever ties with his Muslim brother for more than three days. Whoever does this and then dies shall go straight to Jahannam.”

[Ahmad 8848, from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (RA)]

(7) This World

Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  said, “When a person has no desire for this world, his body and mind will be at ease. However, desire for this world only increases a person’s worry and regret.”

[Kanzul Ummaal 6058, from Hadhrat Tawoos رحمه الله]

(8) The Aakhirah

Allaah says in the Qur'aan,Indeed the criminals (the Kuffaar and sinners) are in error (in this world) and (because of this, they will be) in blazing fires (in the Aakhirah). (Let them not forget) The day when they shall be dragged into the Fire (of Jahannam) on their faces (and it will be said to them) “Taste the touch of the Blaze!” We have certainly created everything by (finely calculated) measure (so that everything meets the requirements for its task and so that everything happens when it is destined to happen). And (when We desire to make something happen) Our command (for it to take place) is but once like the blinking of an eye (it happens instantly and very quickly)”.

[Surah Qamar, verses 47-50]

(9) Cures from the Qur'aan and Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)

Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)  advised that when a person is suffering from fever, cool water should be placed over the body for three nights.

[Mustadrak of Haakim 8226, from Hadhrat Anas (RA)]

Even doctors today advise the use of a cloth dipped in cold water and placed over the forehead to treat fever.

(10) Qur'aanic Advice

Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “O you who have Imaan! Do not take as friends those who make a mockery and fun of your Deen (whether they be) from those who have received the Book before you (the Jews and Christians) and (whether they be from) the (other) Kuffaar (groups). Fear (the punishment of) Allaah if you are (true) Mu'mineen”.

[Surah Maa’idah, verse 57]
